About this site

This website is the result of the collaborative work of the ENGL 435: Global Digital Cultures seminar at Wofford College during the Fall 2016 semester.

Over the course of the semester we explored the metaphor of "the global" as it has shaped digital media practice, as well as the possibility of a digital cosmopolitanism through a focus on non-Western digital media practice and culture.

With an emphasis on media specific close reading, theoretical framing, and comparative analysis, the course considered cultures in the Middle East, Japan, Korea, Africa, Russia, and global diasporas.

The design of this site is drawn from Raymond Williams's Keywords: A Vocabulary of Culture and Society in its logic and focus on the importance of language,  and extends Ben Peters's recent Digital Keywords to include a specific global focus.
